Tim Richmond was just beginning to solidify his name as an elite NASCAR Cup SeriesĀ® driver when he teamed up with Hendrick Motorsports before the 1986 season. Under the tutelage of legendary crew chief Harry Hyde, the addition of Richmond strengthened the Hendrick Motorsports organization, which was in just its third season of NASCARĀ® competition.
While the early part of the season saw some new-partnership blues, Richmond and his No. 25 Folgers team found their stride by taking their first win together at Pocono Raceway in June of 1986.
Richmond started the 500-mile race from the third position and led on five different occasions throughout the race. He wrestled the lead away for the final time with 31 laps remaining and held on for the milestone victory in his career and a catalyst to a seven-win 1986 season
