For 75 years, the Petty family has been synonymous with NASCAR®
royalty. Four generations of Petty family members have competed in
NASCAR®events from behind the steering wheel, while others have made an
impact on the sport in the garage area, at the race shops, and at home
to support the family’s motorsports legacy.
From Lee Petty’s first NASCAR® start in 1949, through “The King”
Richard Petty’s incredible 200 wins and seven NASCAR Cup Series®
championships,to the successes of Kyle Petty and his son Adam, the Petty
family has an unmatched history on the track. Maurice Petty, a longtime
Petty Enterprisescrew chief and engine builder, joined his father Lee
and older brother Richard as NASCAR Hall of Fame® members in 2014.
Maurice’s sons, Mark andRitchie, also made names for themselves in the
NASCAR Cup Series® and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series® in the 1990’s
and 2000’s. While thePetty family has a legendary history at the track,
the mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters of the Petty family were the
true heroes behind the scenes.
