In need of something extraordinary to have a shot at the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series® Playoffs, Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Dillon took extraordinary
measures to lock into the post season with his first win in nearly two seasons.
Dillon, who entered Richmond 32nd in points and in need of a win to capture a Playoff spot, ran amongst the leaders for most of the race. The driver of the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Camaro was in the lead when the caution flag flew in the closing laps and set up an Overtime finish. Dillon lost the lead on the race’s final restart, but reeled the leader back in and put the bumper to that driver. Another challenger then tried to sneak past Dillon, but more contact ensued and Dillon escaped from the carnage with his fifth career NASCAR Cup Series® victory.
